MINCATEC Energy involved in the European HYIELD project

MINCATEC Energy is honored to have actively participated in the HYIELD project kick-off meeting held on January 18, 2024 at WtEnergy Advanced Solutions headquarters in Barcelona. This revolutionary project aims to build Europe’s first industrial-scale waste-to-energy plant to produce green hydrogen.

An ambitious project for a sustainable future

HYIELD, with a budget of 15.5 million euros, has been selected to receive a grant of 10 million euros from Horizon Europe’s Clean Hydrogen Partnership. The project will run over the next 4 years, and involves the collaboration of 16 partners from Spain, France, Luxembourg, Norway, Germany and Switzerland. MINCATEC Energy, as a partner, will help to advance the technology of converting waste into hydrogen, paving the way for a more sustainable energy future.
The kick-off meeting was attended by all the partners, as well as project and financial managers Luca Feola and Antonio Requena Fernández from the Clean Hydrogen Partnership. Alvaro Sanchez, project manager at Magtel and project coordinator, opened the session by presenting the project’s overall objectives and work plan. MINCATEC Energy representatives took an active part in the meeting, expressing their commitment to the project’s success.

Towards a Decarbonized Future with Green Hydrogen

Green hydrogen is becoming a key player in the decarbonization of various sectors such as energy-intensive industry, aviation and shipping. While electrolysis has attracted significant attention, the huge potential for green hydrogen production from waste in Europe is also at the heart of the HYIELD project.
Europe produces around 300 million tonnes of waste a year, offering the potential to produce 30 million tonnes of green hydrogen, exceeding Europe’s target for 2030. The HYIELD project, with the support of the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, estimates that converting waste into hydrogen could offer a cost-effective solution with a potential cost of less than €3/kg, compared with around €5-6/kg for electrolysis.

A strong commitment to a sustainable future

MINCATEC Energy, as a partner in the HYIELD consortium, will contribute to the realization of Europe’s first large-scale waste-to-hydrogen demonstration plant. The project’s ambitious goal is to produce over 400 tonnes of green hydrogen, paving the way for commercial scale-up and replication across Europe. This will enable the closure of landfills and the production of low-cost green hydrogen, contributing to the decarbonization of key sectors such as shipping and heavy industry.

MINCATEC Energy is proud to be part of this groundbreaking initiative and is determined to play a key role in the transition to a more sustainable energy future. Stay tuned for more information on the HYIELD project and MINCATEC Energy’s ongoing contributions to this visionary venture.
